FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Question: How much yield is everyone getting out of this? With this being leaf lettuces I would assume you can just keep harvesting as needed indefinitely?

Answer: Although I've successfully grown tomatoes, I think leaf lettuces and herbs work best in the Aerogarden. My 7 pod LED EXTRA (for height expansion) fully loaded supplied enough lettuce that I didn't really need to go to the store to buy lettuce for 2 people for about 2-3 months. You can either snip off the tops or harvest the outer leaves. I like harvesting outside leaves so new ones can grow from the center

Question: Bitter tasting after 2 months. Is this normal?

Answer: Lettuce can taste bitter if the water is too warm or if it is digesting nutrients. The water in your reservoir should be cool the touch, if it is heating up a bit then throw in a few ice cubes to cool it down. Try a rinse and refill of your water reservoir. Nutrients can build up in the reservoir over time and this can cause your lettuce to taste a bit bitter so cleaning it out once a month (every other feeding) is recommended. Lastly, try to harvest your lettuce before you add nutrients or few days after you have added the nutrients so that it has time to digest them and return to its delicious flavor

Question: How heat tolerant is the lettuce garden? Where my Aerogarden lives can get into the mid to upper 70's during the hottest part of summer.

Answer:  I can tell that lettuce is a "cool season" crop. It will do best when there is sufficient light and temperature below 72 degrees. When temperature gets above 75 for long periods of time, the lettuce will "bolt" or grow rapidly in a vertical direction. I have my lettuce in my basement that is partially heated ( 67 to 72 ) and it does very well there
