Question: Can the backing plates be changed on this polisher in case you need to use a smaller or bigger bonnet or pad?
Answer: Yes, you can change the backing plate. If you want to use another different backing plate, please note that the thread is 5/16 inch.
Question: What type of replacement heavy cutting pads can I use? Are they mostly universal? I don't know how they attach.
Answer: They appear to be universal. They are Velcro backed and they stay on well. I have tried 4 different types and it works well with each type i have used. If you use a cheap thin pad there's a chance you can ruin the pad because the Velcro holds really tight and it can tear when removed.
Question: What size polishing pads come with this polisher?
Answer: 2 sizes of hook and loop velcro head( 6-Inch & 5-Inch) and 2 sizes of foam pads(5-5/16 Inch & 6-1/2 Inch)
Question: How is the backing plate changed if I shared to use a smaller backing plate?
Answer: Use the open wrench to hold the spindle nut in place, then turn the backplate counterclockwise.
