Answer: It's sister version in wood has a description of being able to heat up to 1000 feet. This is the same unit except not in wood. So it should be able to heat 650 square feet. The colder outside the longer it will run but being infrared, it won't take as much electricity as running an all electric heater full time.

Answer: the ads say it does--i think it said an internal safety cutoff it there's a problem. I have never had one overheat or had any problem and I have used the same one for years, then get a backup as it has a life span of 5500 hrs or something like that. . Because it is on the floor, sometimes dog hair or lint may get in it and cause a burning smell but it is not an electrical issue. I have used them as whole house heater for my 975 sq foot home., close off the rooms I don't use when I go to work and leave the heater set at 50 so it will come on if it gets really cold, otherwise, I shut it off to go to work if weather is reasonable. I run it full time when I am not at work on the weekends. It calls for a grounded plug which is important. I plug mine into the bath's cfgi socket and set the unit int he hall as it has an almost 6 ft cord
